CLASS 10 - HINDI HORIZON

The students started with the question answers of chapter - WORSHIP IN NAUBAKHAKHANA. They got stuck in question 2 – Why is Bismillah Khan marked as the central character of Mangalhvani? The teacher explained,”Bismillah Khan practiced constant clarinet for eighty years. True love due to such veneration for the clarinet and true tone, they became their ineffaceable identities. Therefore they have been called as the leading role of Mangalhvani of Shehnai.” Where today students of class 10 are studying as him as a chapter, on his 102nd birth anniversary, Ustad Bismillah Khan’s majestic playing of clarinet is been missed.

He was a symbol of mixed cultures who not only use to play as much as clarinet in mosques but also with much fun in temples. He was an exclusive worshipper of art. Born on March 21, 1916 in Bhirung Raut Ki Gali, Ustad Bismillah Khan is an emanation of composing the most beautiful melodies. If you read about the classification of Indian instruments and come across the vocals produced by blowing, the instrument which first comes is flute and in the metonym, you will find Ustad Bismillah Khan as one of synonyms of it.

He started playing in public when he was 14 years old. Just because of his dedication and riyaz, Shehnai became one of the most popular instruments of India for a long time.
He is the recipient of Sangeet natak akademi award (1956), President Award by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad (1956), Padamshri (1961), Shehnai Chakravanti Samman (1963), Tansen Award (1965), Padma Bhushan (1968), Soviet Land Nehru Award (1976), Padma Vibhushan (1980), Iraq’s Talar Maoshiki Award(1992), Yash Bharati Award(1994), Sangeet  Natak Akademi Fellowship (1994), Rameshwar Degree awarded by Swaraj Sangharsh , Gupta awards(2000) and Bharat Ratna (2001).

Today, Google paid tribute by creating a doodle on him. Sincere thanks to Google for this for letting us remind one of the greatest artists. Currently Symbols of Sanjhi Culture – Ustad Bismillah are carrying out the legacy and promoting his work. Their motive is to fill the emptiness of their clarinet to the masses and also fill the vaccum that has come after Ustad Bismillah’s departure.

Bismillah sahab’s last wish was to pay tribute to the martyrs by performing at India Gate but it was not fulfilled. The pioneer of Shehnai vadak and his melodies are always missed and hope that once again the Ustad Bismillah’s flute is revived again by someone and his last wish gets fulfilled.
